Snap Crackle Split

My kid’s 250K+ mile car had a little failure this week. Exhaust separated at the cat. He said it got loud all of sudden. 🤣

Got the manifold out and headed to a great welding shop in our town and he was able to weld back the two halves. Nice clean Tig weld to boot. Should last a little while.

Two pieces should be one.

All nicely back together.

The welding was $100. Definitely more than if I went to a muffler shop, but this result was worth it.

if you look closely, he trimmed the shield back about 1/4” so that he could gain better access to the surfaces for cleaning up as well as laying down a cleaner bead.

Well worth $100 for quality work.
That guy was a master at laying down a gorgeous bead.

That's pretty great! I would have worried that it might be difficult to get the alignment just right, but apparently your welder had no trouble!

Before I removed the manifold, I put alignment marks on both sections. The welder was able to use them and clock the two parts perfectly.
