R50/53 Dealer touch up paint
Dealer touch up paint
Have Alpine White touch up paint from the dealer that is about 15 yrs. old and what I noticed that the paint is not white but a light grey.
I did shake it for a while but its not like a rattle can where you know its getting mixed.
Anybody else experience this with older touch up paint from the dealer?

Paint can be weird looking sometimes depending on how you are viewing it. Try grabbing a piece of paper and put a swatch of color on it right along the paper's edge, then after it dries take it out to your MINI and see if it matches or not. Color relativity can make colors look different depending on what other colors are around it. If the paper swatch doesn't seem to match at all, then I'd say there is something wrong with the paint and it's not that the paint itself is bad, it just has the wrong pigments inside based on the label. Also, depending on the condition of your MINI's paint, (possible sun scorching, clear coat damage etc.) depends also on how well the touch-up paint will match or not. From my experience, if it's still wet, paint doesn't change color much with age, especially enamels; after they dry however the color will change a bit with time and exposure to the elements. Hope this helps

I get mine from this place. And I store the paint in a climate-controlled cabinet. And still replace it about every 5 or 6 years.

I was afraid of that, no worries man, consider it a part of the antique MINI patina. I bet it looks better than weeping rust Thread
