Cable routing

Hello dear all,

I have been unsuccessfully trying to locate drawings of the harness routing in the engine bay area of my R53. I have tried the haynes and the bentley manuals but there is little to no reference. My 20 year old r53 (recent owner) has many zip ties in ackward places and i want to restore the cable mounting to factory condition. Any suggestions?

thanks in advance

Marios

Would consider finding an R53 - or several - in a wrecking yard and start exploring and taking pictures of the areas of interest. Hopefully not everything underhood on your ride is zip ties, duct tape and sheet metal screws.

Might also repost your question over on Mini2; a good size originalist brain trust over there.

Finding a manual. I suggest following theses steps...

Google "r53 workshop manual”.

Go to the first result that is from Mini2 forum. Click that link.

Go to post number 6... A link to a Google drive account. Click link.

How much of this is related to OCD? If everything works, and it looks relatively neat and tidy, what's the point? As long as none of the wires are rubbing and getting chafed, I would just leave them.

hahaha i can accept the OCD part
BUT
the zip tie routing of the red cable coming from the battery near the exhaust and the gear selector linkages make me a bit nervous for a nice short cirquit.

If the routing makes you nervous, I would just pull the zip ties and reroute to your liking. Keep in mind, just because it was factory, doesn't mean its the best. Especially when it comes to "British" and "Electrical"...
