R50/53 Cmon! Buy a NAM Calendar!!
I too would like to do a larger format calendar. There are two problems with doing it:
1) (And the most important) The photos submitted are from members of the site. To get a good print result like we have done for previous calendars would have to have the equivalent of 300dpi images. This means that to do have a picture the equivalent of 14" x 14" the resolution provided by the camera would have to be 4200 pixels by 4200 pixels. This is about 17 mega pixels...more than what most professional level digital SLR cameras offer. Of all the pro level digital cameras available right now the only camera that offers this is the Canon EOS 1D Mark II which runs about $8-9,000 dollars just for the body. There are quite a few photographers on the site but likely few that own cameras like this. Given this the format of the calendar can't really expand with adversely effecting the quality of it.
2) In order to produce the calendar I work with a professional printer and spend many hours laying out the design, proofing, and finalizing the quality of print. It requires several thousand dollars up front to print the calendar. Additionally to move to a color format the outlay goes up about four times (even at the current size). Given that I don't feel that people would be willing to pay $25-30 for a larger format calendar (if it was possible...see #1 above) or one of the same size in color I don't see that its feasible at this time. Unless printing costs come down (unlikely) or more people line up to purchases calendars so that I can get the cost per calendar down the current form factor will likely be in use next year.
Hopefully the above information will provide some behind the scenes info on the things that have to come into consideration when the calendar is produced.
Thanks for all those that have purchased a calendar! Also, I apologize for the delays that the postal service caused in delivery. Whenever possible I strive to get orders out the same day the order comes in.
Thanks again!
Mark

As for Mac versus PC...I do all my development of the site and store using a Mac with Firefox, Mozilla, and Safari. (IE for Mac is not recommended). Also, I test on Windows with IE and Firefox. I haven't seen any problems during testing but that only means that there can be differences in how we have our machine and browser settings configured. Again just PM me and I'll contact you via email.
Thanks
Mark
