Fuel pump

Ok, I can hear my fuel pump running, when I disconnect the hose to the filter I get no fuel. Is pump bad? Or could it be clogged?

04 mcS been sitting for a year with quarter tank of gas. I’m going to take the pump out tomorrow and see if there’s anything clogging it.

the fuel filter is brand new also. Just not sure why no fuel coming out of the hose if I can hear it turning on and running while even trying to start it. I can also hear it prime before you try starting it.

Did you make sure the housing was properly sealed when the new filter was installed? I ran into this issue once and I think I recall the new rubber o-ring being an issue. I used the old o-ring and it worked. Everything looked fine and with the new o ring I could not get the car to fire. As soon as I swapped the old o ring in, the car fired. Weird, but it's what happened. Might be worth a look.

Also, note that I've notice the MANN filters I use seem to have a tendency to come apart. (e.g. the bottom plastic piece stays stuck in the bottom of the housing) Since the filter and fuel seem to always look black (I think it's the plastic deteriorating) it might be easy to overlook and stuff a new filter on top of it.

I can’t get fuel coming from the line off the pump, it’s before the filter. The pump turns on and spins, but nothing coming out of the line when I pull it off the inlet of the filter top.

Suspect the fuel level is lower than you think possibly combined with fuel that no longer resembles fuel. The fuel pump inlet might be clogged.

To get to the bottom of this think you need to pull the fuel pump. Depending upon what you find a new fuel pump, filter, fuel lines and even injectors might be called for. And a fuel tank cleaning.

But the 1st step is pulling the fuel pump.

Pulling the pump today. New injectors are in, new filter also in. I am suspecting the pump is on its way out, due to me having to replace the one in my other mini a couple months ago. When I first tried firing the car up I did not hear the pump, then when I tapped on the the top (what they been calling fonzied) the pump started, but no fuel. So I stopped for the day (already put in 8hrs of double checking everything and assembly/bleeding clutch) because it was over 100 degrees outside.

Well upon first inspection, it don’t have enough gas in the tank when car front end is lifted, so I’m running out now to get more gas.
