R50/53 Removing rear lower control arm bushing
Removing rear lower control arm bushing
Hi,
The bushing at the back of the lower control arm on the front suspension of my 2003 R53 has gone bad. Do I need to completely remove the control arm to replace the bushing, or can I push it out of the way without completely disconnecting it except at the back?
-Eric

Getting ready to do this job. Dreading it of course. Planning on dropping the subframe. The Mod MINI YT channel has two videos showing the two primary ways - saw/press/dig out the old one on the car, then press in the new replacement; and the second one is drop the subframe. You can't remove the LCA brackets without dropping it (thanks BMW!). Also allows access to ball joints, steering hoses, and other items of interest "while you're in there" plus clean and/or paint things.

Drop the subframe. The bushings are downright easy with the subframe out. replace everything that is questionable while you're in there. Tie rods, ball joints, etc. Enjoy many worry free more miles.
I've done it a few dozen times, feel free to message me if you have any questions. Or if you're near SE WE, drop on by
