R50/53 Tuning/Reliability
Tuning/Reliability
Hey everyone, i have a 2006 Mini Cooper S im planning to get tuned in a few days. Im tuning with AdrianCL from the forums, heard great things about him. Before tuning i was wondering if anyone could give me a horsepower estimate for a car like mine. i have the following engine mods:
17% pulley
OBX Headers
Milltek exhaust with cat delete/test pipe
colder plugs
DDM intake
msd coipack
lighter flywheel
380cc injectors
I was hoping someone with similar modifications has dyno'd their car and could give me a hp estimate. I would like to get right around 190hp, depending on how much hp the car is currently producing. Also for anyone making above 190hp, how has reliability been with stock internals? Would hate to up the power in my car for it to break down for few months later. Would also love to hear any reviews of Adrians tuning, Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Depending on how you drive your MINI, you should be safe...

.Adrian:
1) Software: You need a laptop that has windows (10 i think). He will first ask you to upload (AnyDesk) which is a software that allows him to take control of your laptop . He will upload 2 general softwares, one to diagnose your car and read data (this one you can use to remove check engine lights manually which is pretty cool lol), and another to upload the tune that he will make for you. He says he will give you 3 tunes to allow for fine tuning. I just did the first tune for my own car and i havent driven it much so I dont know how it performs.
2) Time: The whole uploading the tune takes a while. Almost an hour (that is if everything goes smoothly which nothing ever does). For me it took longer since I had many SES lights (see next step). With that being said, make sure you have a charger for both your phone and laptop as you will be communicating with him over Facebook messenger.
3) Requirements: He will not tune your car if there is something wrong. Make sure that there are no SES lights or anything in that manner as he wants a clean engine to tune on. Make sure there's nothing wrong with the car. (I learned it the hard way).
4) Price: He charged me 180 for the initial tune but at the time I did not have my cam so he created a tune with everything but the cam. The tune I completed with him 2 days ago was with my dominator cam. Try to have all your parts with you when he does the tune.
5) Time to meet: since he is located in Europe, for people that live on the east coast, he is available in-between 12:30pm-5:30-6:00pm. It really sucked for me since I ended school at 3:00 so that ate up a lot of time for tuning. If you message him and he doesn't answer, its possible he's sleeping.
Engine Upgrades (right now): RMW head, RMW dominator cam, 550cc injectors, 15% alta sc pulley, 2% alta crank pulley, alta cai, racing dynamics header, alta catback, racing dynamics intercooler, msd coils, iridium plugs 2 step colder, and detroit tuned bypass valve.
Before head: 15% sc pulley, 2% crank pulley, msd coils, iridium plugs, alta catback, alta cai, and racing dynamics intercooler. Adrian gave me an estimate of 190-200 hsp
1. Heat: your engine will make much more heat than stock which is the problem I'm facing. I ordered a thicker radiator, pump, and ebay aluminum expansion tank.
2. Convenience: I only say convenience since before I did the rmw head I would daily the mini and I had really good gas mileage but now the Mini CHUGS gas and with my header its much louder than I would like. Honestly planning on installing a muffler.
I did just finish my mini and I have not really put miles on it so I cannot answer whether its reliable or not but I thought you might need some info regarding tuning and before purchasing parts since I went through HELL. But like I said I would be more than happy to update you on how everything goes if you want. Also, if you plan on ordering an rmw head or anything from rmw, CALL THEM BEFORE ORDERING. I ordered my head, cam, and DT bypass valve on july 5th. I received my head on August 30th. So I had my engine open for 56 days which was very scary. PLAN AHEAD
*If you have any questions please let me know. I was on my own with this stuff so I had to do all the research myself. Hope this helped!*
I have a somewhat similar setup (w/one-ball exhaust) and a 15% pulley on my MC40 with an Adrian tune using an MS5150 ECU (highly recommended). I measured (Dynojet Research) 193.50hp at the wheel. That would translate to ~220hp at the crank.
I have a racing dynamics 421 header and love it, sounds wayyyy better than 41 headers BUT you need to have a different style collector welded onto your mid pipe inorder to run the dynamics header.

it was very loud and created alot of drone. But performance was there. I got the header with the decat so it’s basically a straight pipe for me. At idle it was a beautiful. A very deep idle but I lost pops I don’t know why. Maybe from my tune
