NEVER let somebody else dictate your driving. If someone is honking and flashing their lights at you, ignore them. And the left lane isnt reserved for people going 80mph. It's called a speed limit for a reason. I'll drive in the left lane whenever the hell I want to thank you very much. That said, I usually don't unless actively passing.

You're the person that I drop the hammer on and leave in the dust. I try to stay as far away from you as possible, you are an accident waiting to happen. Good thing Mini has 6 airbags, I hope you never need them.

NO YOU DO NOT OWN THE ROAD AND NEITHER DO I. WE ALL SHARE THE ROAD.

The turn signal is a heads up that our speeds are different, please move. Apparently you think that you own the road and don't have to share with others. I agree there are speed limits for a reason, but when no one else is going 55mph and you are the only one... you are creating a dangerous situation for everyone else.

Thank God you live in Pittsburg. God knows Atlanta has enough traffic problems from morons wrecking the flow of traffic and causing pile ups.

When you go beyond the posted speed limit you are taking more than your share, now aren't you?

Pitts, I agree with most of the views you've posted but here, you're Dead Wrong! ...and I hope that's not an omen ... It is called a Passing Lane and whether or not your state has a law concerning it, th "unwritten" rules of the road say that you don't sit there if you're being overtakken - that's everywhere in the world. You've got a car that can shift lanes better than any other on the road so go ahead and shift once in a while ...

where is everyone? I can't see over the soap boxes and high horses. Obviously, you're not going to change anybody's driving by preaching on here. So just mind your own driving, and let's talk about something more cheerful, like puppy dogs and humming birds.

If you read the post you would have seen:

>>Ever thought about staying out of the left lane unless you're traveling faster than >>other traffic or passing someone ?

Ever thought I wasn't in the left lane and the guy swerved into my lane trying to go around the guy that was going slow in the left lane?

>>If you see a car approaching rapidly from behind with their left blinker on or a quick flash of the high beams during the day (never at night that's dangerous)... MOVE OUT OF THE WAY.

No duh.

That means I am going faster than you and would like to pass you without having to slow down to your merry 55 mph and wait until you've decided you'll let me around. Don't camp out in the passing lane. Hence the word "PASSING". Maybe the european roads have a higher speed limits than US roads because people over there CAN DRIVE ? (What a novel thought)

Are you attacking me here? I guess I did ruffle your feathers. Did I say anything about going fast? No I said drive responsibly. So Do I need to rephrase it? Don't drive like a jerk. Swerving in and out of traffic. If you are in the left lane and some one doesn't get outta the way boo hoo, sooner or later they will be outt your way, you'll survive. I don't care if you are going fast just drive responsibly.

>>I hate people on the road that refuse to use their mirrors and hog the left hand lane at 55 mph.

I hate it when people don't use there mirrors when swerving around the slow poke in the left lane and into me driving in the middle lane.

>>I don't express a strong opinion on most things, I think to each his own, but when it comes to incompetent drivers I have no pity at all and I think they should be banned from driving.

Dude I think we agree onthis I didn't mean to offend you. You can be a good
responsible fast driver and you can be a Jerk driving fast. All I said was to be responsible.
Peace brother.

Actually it is the speeder creating the unsafe situation. The gov't puts in a lot of effort (studies, statistics, etc) coming up with the speed limits. They are there for your safety. Your speeding is what creates the unsafe situation. If you cannot see that, then you have no reason driving on gov't regulated roads; take it to the speedway.

I agree. If the speed limit is 55, and you're passing at say, 65...someone blowing up the rear at 80 has no right to get pissed off. Normally, they wait until the last second to brake, coming within a foot of your bumper to "let you know that you're going too slow". Ohhhh it's so tempting to tap the brakes.

Remember it it the trailing person's responsibility to keep a safe braking distance. So if you happen to see an animal running across the road and you're panic braking to miss it, then hmmm. That sounds like a good excuse. But I'd never do it in my MINI, maybe I'd use the Neon for that one

It is pretty bizarre that people really are not required to know how to handle a car beyond how to stop, go, and park.

Kind of like a firearms safety class that only teaches how to turn off the safety mechanism and pull the trigger.

It's funny how people are in cars... I think part of it is that it's imprsonal since you are isolated behind metal and glass ... so that would lead you to not care and not be personal on the road...BUT...when something happens to you it becomes VERY personal...why is that? we treat other drivers like objects yet we react ourselves so personally? hmmm.... I think we are all crazy.

Personally I get frustrated with slow drivers and moslty drivers that don't pay attention (reading, cell phones, all that stuff)....I always wave when I zip up behind someone and they move over..."thanks!" so I think there can be an agreble middle ground where people respect other's rights to zip a bit faster yet get the thanks for doing the right thing.

It IS funny how this is such a sensitive subject though...look at us go!

Sorry if I went off on you.

Sheesh, actually PMark, your the p***k. If someone comes up behind you flashing lights and honking they JUST MIGHT be having some sort of personal emergency which means they REALLY need to get somewhere. Who knows, its possible. But you won't move for ANYONE. Not the car trying to get to the hopsital to deliver a baby, not the car trying to get to the vet to save a sick kitty cat, not even the guy in the LARGE SUV trying to save his buddy from the accidental knife wound (sorry for the stereotype SUV drivers)

Nice, real nice.

The truckers call the passing lane the "hammer lane" for a reason.

Pitts.... Try this on for size, oh can you move over a lane ?

Just for you !

This was done on a closed road by a professional driver. Don't attempt this on a civilian road you might run into Pitts...

You guys scare me. The odds of it being an emergency are so slim. Usually it's someone pissed off at everyone else, people drag racing down the expressway, or something equally stupid. To break the law so flagrantly, and expect that people respect you on the road is outrageous.

Right, and I agree. Chances very (very) slim. But chances none the less. Point being we should ALL share the road. It is public property.

I'm just trying to get outta first gear....

Hey, if you look at my post I said I use the left lane for passing purposes, not that I drive in it all the time at 55. Actually, I drive pretty fast on the highway, about 70 or so. But if I'm passing someone at 70 and there's a car on my right, and some meathead comes roaring up behind me at 85 and wants me to go 90 just so it gets me to where I can get to the right a nanosecond earlier, he is the one that's out of line.

You ragers can rage your way up the highway at 90 mph all you want, I'll be the one going at the 70 mph I'm comfortable with and blowing kisses at you! I'm not going to stomp on the gas just because you flick your lights.

Personally, I cruise at between 65mph and 70mph... don't generally go too much faster than that. The speed limit around here is 60mph, and I don't get mad at anyone going at least that fast (although someone going slower than that is irksome). While camping out in the left lane and holding up people behind you is rude, it's not a capitol offense. Get a grip. That said, tailgating and riding one's a$$ when both lanes on a two-lane are full is also very rude, IMO. I consider the person speeding in dense traffic to be way more dangerous than the guy doing the speed limit, regardless of what lane they're in.

This garbage about driving like they do in Europe is particularly silly. People drive on the autobahn for a few years or whatever and think that everyone in america should all of a sudden drive like that. Fine, whatever. They don't. Get over it. As you're not likely to get everyone in America to jump on the bandwagon, you're better off NOT flashing your brights, NOT turning on your turn signal, and just getting over it. Maybe some counseling will help you let it go. It's not Europe... you're not there anymore. Drivers in America are just as predictable... you flash your brights, flip on the turn signal and ride someone's tailpipe, and you'll get a very predictable, consistent response. It just won't be the one you want.

On a happier not, you want to do some crazy driving? Try Saudi Arabia. If you want to think back with nostalgia on how predictable and sane North American drivers are, try that for a year or two. Driving in Saudi is bona fide crazy.
