2006 R50 Randomly does not start
I have a starting issue with my 2006 R50. Beginning 12/31/2020, the car would crank but would not start. I replaced the Fuel Pump Relay and it started right up. It started right up every time for about a week, then, one night, it would not start. It would crank but would not start. The next morning, it started right up. I took the car to a trusted mechanic who experienced the no-start a couple of times, but it started before he could diagnose the issue. He kept it 10 days, and it started every time. I brought the car home, and it started every time for a few weeks, then it would not start. A few hours later, it started.
In short, the car starts fine (starts instantly), then out of the blue, it will not start. It cranks as long as I turn the key but will not start. A few hours later, it will start instantly. The battery is good. The Check Engine light does come on when it doesn’t start. Once it starts again, the CEL goes away. I have checked for codes and consistently get:
1693: Electronic throttle monitoring level 2/3 Engine and injection deactivation ‘B’
1692: [same as 1693 except] deactivation ‘A’
Other codes I have gotten but not every time I scan:
5E16 CAN connection to instrument cluster
5E19 CAN Data fault from DME/DDE (DSE lamp on as long as error is present)
EWS Electronic Immobilize System: 33 toleration of changing code increased with key #3
I began counting the number of times the car started. It started 30 times without issue then on try #31, it would not start. The next day, it started fine. I got seven starts, then it would not start. After a few hours it started and I am now on start six starts and counting.
Has anyone experienced this same issue? I am hoping someone has and figured out a fix. I think I have searched every thread in this forum and have not found a solution. There seem to be some similar issues, but none that solved mine.
If you haven’t had the issue but have suggestions, I am all ears. It is frustrating that it randomly will not but after a few hours, it starts. Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

1692 and 1693 seem to indicate that the DME is having trouble reading the signal from the gas pedal and therefore isn't willing to let the engine start. It seems like you have a decent scan tool, so next time it doesn't start hook-up the scan tool and see if you can read the signal from the gas pedal. There should be two signals because there's two sensors in there for safety reasons.
edit- might also be an issue with the throttle body, so look at those signals too.

Just after I made the OP, the car did not start (it had started seven times without issue). I disconnected the negative terminal for a few seconds, reconnected and the car started right up. It must have reset something, but I have no idea what. Thanks again!
