R53 Genuine MINI parts on Intergalactic Backorderr

Was going to use a Genuine gasket but could not order because my local dealer parts dude looked up the part number and then told me that they are unavailable at the moment, I then asked when they might be available, he then said wow looks like not anytime soon because none were even on the shelves in Germany so the part is on backorder, I asked does that mean infinite backorder LOL never to be available again? --- and he said that they call it "intergalactic backorder" with these situations, usually happens when a part # is in the process of being superseded, but also happens in that twilight time when a part is being completely discontinued.

Just thought it was funny and we were both laughing.

I had never heard that term but apparently it's common in the parts industry?

Yeah, I thought it was crazy that such a common part was stuck in limbo like that.

I had bought a bunch of parts and my budget was getting crushed and stupidly decided to skimp out on the gasket--- thought that I could get by with a cheap Fel-Pro but when I tried to fit it the damn thing was too big and scrunched up, impossible to make a seal. Ended up paying double for a Mahle gasket from my local Autozone because I didn't want to wait for one through the mail.
