My mini is alive!!!!!

Ok this is really wierd. I was at work today and I took a lunch break and when I went to get in my car the sunroof was in the vent position and both windows were rolled down about 3 inches. When I parked it earlier it was closed and locked. Ok well I thought that maby my key had gotten pressed and held in the unlock position(which you'r supposed to press twice then hold) for a sec or 2 and opened everything up a little. I closed everything and went back inside and when I left for the day the same thing. I just got my baby last monday and already strange things happining. I also had 666 miles at the time all this happened. SCAREY!!!!!! I also noticed 3 times when I was driving the windows rolled down when you opened the door but didn't roll back up. That has only happened 3 times to my knowledge. What if it is storming outside and all of a sudden my car decides it is hot and opens up to let the rain in. Nooooooo that would suck. Well the good news is other than a rattle in the boot and this problem, everything has been awsome. I have an appt next thursday at my mini dealer to let them take a look at her. I hope it's nothin major. Another thing I have to watch out about is I have been going over 4500 rpms. Not alot but a few times. Havn't broken her in yet. I hope that doesn't mess anything up. It was mostly accident not noticing while having to much fun. Has anyone else had this happen to them???

Your car is possessed!

If you haven't thought of a name for your car yet, may I suggest "Damien"?

There's something about the windows down-up thing that I haven't figured out yet. I noticed my passenger window wasn't doing it the other day.

I think it's something like this: If you shut off the ignition, you can still operate the windows until the driver's door is opened. But if you do that, then the down-up thing doesn't work again until you reset the system by having the ignition on and operating the windows again. Or something like that. Haven't quite figured it out yet.

But the sunroof thing? Weird. Does your dealer have an exorcist on their staff?

(Your car isn't Chili Red/Black by any chance?)

Oh, oh - just thought of another name - "Christine"!

hahahhaahaha I hope they do. That had me laughin for at least 5 min. LOL here is what one guy said on miniusa

FrankenMINI! It's alive. It's ALIVE!!

Actually, it sounds like you have a bad controller which I'm sure the dealer will replace. There were a lot of these in earlier year MINIs, but I thought they had gotten this problem resolved.

The MINI is basically a computer network with numerous controllers and sensors all connected by a low speed bus and a high speed bus. Everything comes together at the so called "body controller" or "general controller" which controls most of the things on the car from lights to locks. There are additional controllers which handle specific tasks like engine and climate control. There is a window controller which could be the culprit or the general controller may just be sending out erroneous messages.

Maybe this is more than you wanted to know, but I thought you might be interested in how it all works. Good luck getting it fixed before the next storm.

That might be the culprit...

Ha!....I thought the same thing! If you've ruled out the key being pressed somehow, yeah, just wait for the dealer to sort it out. They have all kinds of little black boxes at the dealer full of all sorts of dark magic. I'm sure they'll find the right incantation to make things right. I've found sometimes they have some spare eye-of-newt or sinister sauce lying around, too, if I'm running short.

Anyway, I do know from watching old movies that usually, without fail, the "body controller" (aka: brain) just needs a tweak or something. You'll be good to go then!

Noooooooooo

I had my windows roll down and sunroof open last winter while snowing. It was terrible, there was about 2 inches of snow inside my car. I never figured out how it happened but it hasn't happen again. Thank god.

well last thursday I had an appt with the dealership and my service guy said that it was b/c i left my lights on for almost 3 hrs the same day and that it probally ran the batt down about half way. he said he's seen the convertable's open up half way when the batt goes dead and the car does wierd things. They made sure my batt was fully charged and it was which is why it hasn't happend since then. Lol I was freken out though. That's wierd that the car will start to freak out when the batt goes dead. Hrmmmm. O well. At least it didn't start up and drive itself into the path of an oncoming truck. LOL I don't think it's that advanced yet. Give them 10 years.:smile:
