R53 Fuel Level Sender & Pump - Advice Please

I’ve been having issues with my fuel gage going down to 1/4 of a tank and then no lower. Has led to running out of gas on the highway twice now. I did an ECU reset after the first time and thought I had fixed it. Just happened again so I’m thinking it’s time to replace the sender. I figure it’s a good time to do some “while you’re in there” work as well.

I’ll definitely replace the filter and I’m wondering if it’s worth upgrading the fuel pump beyond OEM specs? I don’t have any immediate plans for tuning, but would like to get there one day (probably after an engine refresh and a supercharger pulley upgrade).

Any other suggestions for chasing this fuel gauge issue other than replacing the sender?

Thanks!
