Since I get excited when I see another MINI, I assume others do as well (and you know what they say about assumptions). So, therefore, I am let down when the other person does not wave, flash or beep. To me, it's disappointing some other MINI drivers don't seem so enthusiastic about the whole owning a MINI experience.

Again, to me, it just makes sense one would say hello to another MINI driver. Even with my other cars, when I would see the same make, I would give a shout out to that person. I don't expect them to do the same but it makes my day when it is returned.

Saw three MINIs on the 405 today (oncoming traffic). Waved at all of them.
They didn't wave back on account of their windows being up with the A/C on.

I guess I'll keep on waving , no matter what the reciprocating effect is! I'll just start telling people which have interest in purchasing one that it is a piece of &*%$ (which is a complit lie ofcourse) just to keep the numbers low to the real enthusiast. OR force BMW to stop making them !!!

P.s Just kidding !!! Let them prolifirate, I'll just keep on waving

Ok guys/gals, this is what am going to do to my BRG MC- I going to make a sticker with the letters NAM and put it some where visible on my MC for all of you see. That will tell you that am a waving motorist and feel free to wave back. I live in Los Angeles, CA so I'll see you on the road

When I bought my car, no one said I had to wave or make me sign a legal contract to that nature. Not sure why you expect people have to wave back.
I don't think that people have to wave back I just think it is sad that they don't. It's kinda like recycling in that you don't have to recycle your cans and bottles, it's not against the law to just throw them away, but why not? Do you only do the things you have to do? Is that how you determine if something is worth doing, if its mandatory? You didn't make me sign a contract so I'm not waving.

Only in America!

We always wave and honk at other MINI folks and have only had one occasion where the driver didn't signel back. We have even broken various traffic laws in order to catch up with another MINI, just so we could greet them.

I work as a telephone operator, and swear that people should have to pass a basic intelligence test before they can have phone service. Maybe MINIUSA should require some form of test before MINI ownership as well!

Perhaps the MINI clubs could put together some kind of "owner's manual" to distribute at the dealerships to new MINI owners, spelling out what exactly is expected of them from MINI Society.

I wouldn't go as far as to mandate to wave , but to let the new owner be aware of the kind of passion some of us have about them. Or at least some ethics regarding the matter. Beside the people buying the car have for surely come across one or two of those brochures with illustration on the matter

Not the number of cars, but the percent of shmucks

You have to figure the tools who don't wave back are the same tools who don't acknowledge a greeting from another person in a hallway. I figure if someone acknowledges you with even a simple gesture as a nod or whatever, its basic courtesy to motion back in some way. That always pisses me off.

It will be the same as more mini's proliferate, but I don't think it's because the car is more common and thus less worthy of note, but that there will be a larger percentage of self absorbed *******s who own them.

Guess what, it is mandatory to wave back....or didn't you're mother know how to raise you?

D'accord. How does one know that state of mind of the other driver? Maybe he/she is on the phone (preferably with a blue tooth hands-free) talking to a sick child, etc. For everyday working people, every excusion in the MINI is not necessarily a canyon run.

Your right, state of mind does play into this waving thing. But if you are stressed out over something a wave may help:smile:

Wave or not to wave

I always wave at every mini and dont care what the response. If I'm acknowledged that's great, if not it's their problem.

My cousin and I were crusin together (He has a 04 Black/Black MCS and I have a RED/Black MCS 05). Anyway, we saw a Cooper sitting at a night and we both passed and honked and waved and he waved but had the strangest look on his face like "Hey do I know you" .... LOL.. we laughed but since I've gotten my MCS ive been getting nothing but love from other MINI owners. I live in NY btw.

wow thanks!! I think that was the hardest decision, finally picking a color, and just to keep this on topic, an easy decision would be to wave at other minis when you see them

ps Just to let you know, the wait is sooooooo worth it!

ahem...just like waiting for a fellow mini driver to wave at you......

I always wave, and I always will.

MINIs used to be ordered with a 3 month plus waiting list. Now you can pick up a used MINI at any used car dealer. So people are now buying MINI because they want a car, and not because they saw one, and had to figure out how to get one. So many new owners do not share our passion. It is there loss.

Keep waving. I try not to honk, give the bird and I try to wave anytime I get in front of another car. I didn't do this before, and I think as an enthusiast I have an obligation to motor with the MINI spirit. How can we hope for the new owners to share our passion if we don't share it.

When I picked my O5 up, my dealer went through a list of 10 things you have to know about the mini (things like the warning tone when it drop below 37 degrees, the bonnet latch being on the passenger side, etc) #1 was that you had to wave at other mini owners. This was a printed list from Mini USA I believe.

if they are driving around in a coma and don't notice u, then i submit that they are not MOTORING, but merely DRIVING

if they see u and don't wave, again they are GETTING FROM POINT A TO POINT B but not MOTORING

I had a very interesting wave today. I got behind an Indi Blue/White MCS, I'm in an IB/W MC. First I was behind him at a stop light, then we accelerate off, and I continue following him to the next stop light Finally he changes lanes, to pass a car front of him, I change to the lane to the right of him and there are 2 cars in front of me at the light--but I need to make a right anyways. So I pull up to the corner to make my turn, and I glance over at the guy in the MINI. He waves--but he's not even looking at me. More like "I'll shake my hand in the air just to satisfy him". I wasn't even sure I wanted to wave back. Hahaha, come on, if you're going to wave, atleast mean it--don't do it cause you feel like you HAVE to!!

i live on alameda CA, a small island that stretches 3.5 miles and the closes dealer is right across the bay in SF so i do see a lot minis here and 80% of them just drive by without acknowledging. i guess over here people buy it because its unique and therefore have no knowledge of the motoring history of the mini Besides motoring, taking part of the mini tradition is part of the fun owning the car right guys?
