R50/53 P1498 code possible cause
P1498 code possible cause
Tigger threw me a P1498 a few days ago, since it was warm and sunny (finally) yesterday I had a chance to check him out. My scanner said that it was an unmetered air leak downstream from the compressor. Using the old carb cleaner trick of spraying around it the inlet tract, I found a hole in my intercooler on the passenger's side at the crimp I'm trying a temporary fix with JB weld to fill the hole. I'll keep folks posted as to whether it works or not. The Manual has no listing for the P1495 code, so I thought that I'd post what I found and my potential source for the code.
Stock Intercooler, the holes are right at the crimp along the short side. I started him last night to move him outside (so the DD for today would be warm and dry) and got no codes. I'll know more later this week. I'm wondering if its a stress issue since I replaced the intercooler boots last fall and I'm not sure that I got it located just right -it looks like its a bit to the passenger's side relative to the mounting points.
Solution works
So I finally got a chance to run Tigger today, no codes, no SES, no EML. The holes in the intercooler were the issue. JB weld, as much as I dislike using such things, has done the trick to reseal the seam. When I have time and $$ to do so, I'll put in a GRS motorsports intercooler.
I hope that this helps someone down the road.
