Parting out an R53, what parts should we keep
My son and I bought two R53s, one is wrecked, 2004. We plan on using the wheels, tail lights, seats, stock air intake and some other trim pieces. If storage is not a problem what other parts should we keep. I have room to store parts but need to have the car gone in a few weeks. We plan to pull the engine and tranny for the experience. Would you keep any parts if it was your car? 120k miles on it...
I would keep any body parts that did not get damaged since used R53 body panels seem to bring a premium. All wear items are good to keep if they are in good shape, power steering pump, all engine accessories, all of the interior pieces.
Basically if you have the space it really is worth keeping as much as possible because if later on you decide you don't want the parts you should be able to sell them and make some of the money back.
Definitely keep the engine/transmission assembly.

If you have the space, keep everything.
Whatever you don't need, you can sell.
I once bought a fox body Mustang for the engine, transmission, and rear axle that I installed in my 67. I parted out the rest of the car, and ended up with more money in my wallet than I started with, PLUS a complete drivetrain.
