R50/53 3 things you like / 3 things you dislike

I ended up converting everything to 12mm, to avoid any future issues, since most wheel bearings/hubs are for the smaller wheel bolts

2003 JCW R53 Mini S
Likes:
1. How quick the steering ratio is
2. Gets 28+ MPG on the highway....which is where I do 95% of my driving.
3. Has enough power to be fun as hell and a blast to drive
Dislikes:
1. Looses a bunch of power at low rpm's with the AC on
. . .
3. Does the random "rough idle" thing every once in a while...and nobody knows why

i HELLA feel you on the random rough idle like WTF I changed power steering pump and refreshed ALL fluids..... the only thing was that I’ve been running low grade fuel for two years thinking that was fine until today when I decided to read the inside of the fuel door -_- werps. So hopefully that will resolve my issue.

Gosh, mine started the rough idle yesterday. Had never encountered it. I am hoping it is the new Borla exhaust I put on and something is loose, although I'm not sure what can come loose. It's only bolted on with two bolts, but I did sense some increased vibration once I put it on. I wonder if that vibration shook something loose. I went to Starbucks and was literally embarrassed at the level of noise waiting in the drive through. I tried to idle it higher, but it's really hard to hold it steady...

3 questions for you:
- Are all three yours personally? Or 3 members of your family?
- Middle MC40 has the aero side skirts and a JCW badge too. Aero front bumper too?
- Any mods that makes you prefer one over the other (pulley, intake etc.)

Okay, I drive a 2005 R50 in Hyper Blue ( Ironic for a neuro-diverse person with ADHD!) with a white roof, 5 speed, white 16 inch wheels, sport seats, cordoba beige leather interior and chrono pack. It's pretty, but not fast.
3 Likes:
1: Just Look At It! It's cuter than Baby Yoda! (OK...maybe not THAT cute.)
2. It's amazing to drive and handles like nothing else I have ever driven.
3. It has a proper manual transmission with a clutch pedal
3 dislikes:
1. Premium gas. For a 115 hp 4 cylinder?
2. Service Mode. It makes it feel more like servicing a Ferrari than a 4 cylinder subcompact.
3. Useless cupholders

I'll be adding the JCW Front Brakes on #211, it is the one I do Track Days with.
All three have been signed by Paddy Hopkirk ...
In Addition to the JCW Engine Performance Package, they all have Strut Tower Braces, Schroth Rallye Belts, PIAA Aero Wiper Blades, Continental ExtremeContact tires, and the elusive glove box divider.
Motor On!

Like:
1. Parkability - pure joy to grab the one parking spot no one else can fit into, especially if it's a Beemer. Who's the bastard step child now?! Ha ha!
2. Seat heaters. The ultimate in pure luxury, and I'll never buy another car without them. They work very, very well on this car.
3. Agility in handling, braking and accelerating. Saved me more than once here in crazy SoCal traffic. Best accident to survive is the one you never have, because go-kart.
Dislike:
1. Quintessential BMW repair ergonomics (i.e. none). Front end maintenance mode for alternators and water pump, subframe removal for replacing bushings etc. Damn near complete car disassembly for a clutch. Special tools for everything of course.
2. Corners obviously cut and must-repair weak points baked into the engineering, also a-la BMW, like timing chain guide rails, cooling system leaks, and electrical gremlins. The amount of plastic inappropriately used under the hood on these cars should be an industry-wide embarrassment, but Beemer does it on all their cars right up through the M series. Always one failure and several thousand dollars in dealer repairs from being a truly great motorcar for the ages.
3. Hood release on the passenger side. They went to the expense to move steering and other controls to the left to 'Americanize' it (actually, the Germans probably did it the other way around for the Brits and Aussies) but Hans und Franz just couldn't get around to moving the hood release? Ridiculous.
