You just need to get one with pop up lid. I have a different one I use in the Mini. I have the Mini Fini.
The Mini Fini cup holder is designed specifically for gen 1 Mini. It was shipped with the early 05 but too many people complained so MINI switched to the crappier one. The Mini Fini pivots so you can stow it inboard or outboard. It is very well designed, as with all their products.
