2002 R-50 electrical

Hello all, I recently acquired a 2002 R-50 and am having problems with electrics. Some things I have been able to find on here, searching and scanning through posts, other issues I have not been so lucky with. Any help is greatly appreciated!

-Sunroof drain was off of left front corner, now fixed.

-Tach and everything in it is not functioning. I did pull the tach off the column and checked for voltage at pin 7, hoping to put 12 volts to it but ran out of time. Hope to pull it apart some time this week and try that. Have checked all fuses, all are ok visually and using an ohm meter. More about this in the next problem.

-Fuse F5 has no power to it, the fuse ohm'd out good but I have 0.00 volts to the fuse itself. This is the only fuse that does not have power. I understand fuse F-5 is one for the tach, and I tried running 12 volts to F5 to see if it would remedy the tach issue and no such luck. All fuses under the hood are fine as well, including the 4 on the bottom of the under hood fuse box.

-HVAC controls are not operational, no lights on any of them, no heat, no A/C, no defrost, nothing. I have removed the unit and the little fan with the temp probe for the automatic climate control IS working, the rest of the unit is just blank.

-Backlights for the dash don't work, the radio lights and odometer lights do work, but that's all.

-OBDII port doesn't do anything when a scan tool is plugged into it. Won't power on the scan tool at all, does nothing.

-DSC and airbag lights are on in the speedo cluster, airbag is on all the time, DSC is on about 90% of the time, rarely it turns off on startup.

-All outside lights function as they should, the flasher relay clicks as normal with turn signals/hazard lights. Brake/tail/park/head/fog lights are all operational as well.

BCM looks good, plugs look good to it, it's dry with no corrosion on the connections. Before I fire up the ol' parts cannon, if appreciate some feedback, so I might have an idea of tests or checks I can do to save myself a little time and money. Thank you for checking this out, and sorry for the long read!

Update

Alright this past weekend I was able to take the tach off and run 12 volts to pin 7. That fixed the tach issue and the dash lights not working. Now my HVAC has backlights but still nothing when I want to turn it on and use it, no numbers in the display, nothing happens when I push any buttons. Haven't plugged a scan tool into the OBD port so I'm not sure if that's working yet. Just wanted to update anyone interested in what I've done so far. I'll be trying to tackle more problems as I go and keep everyone updated if I find anything else out.

Another Update

So I ended up getting a junkyard climate control unit and I can control air temp but have no blower motor. I'm sure it's the resistor I just haven't been able to dive in and figure that out. I ran 12 volts to the blower motor hot wire and it does work, but the climate control system is supposed to supply 0.5v to 8v max so I don't run it very long and run the risk of burning something up. The A/C compressor does not kick on either even though the line pressures are correct by my gauges.

As for a lot of the other electrical problems, I ended up pulling the interior fuse box and side kick panel off and the main connector harness beneath the fuse panel had 4 broken wires. I don't have a terminal tool and it was kinda FUBAR anyways so I ended up taking the broken wires, stripping them back, soldering them together and heat shrink wrapping them. Not right but it'll hold and shouldn't corrode again. Those wires fixed the tach, OBDII port that had no power, and some other small issues I didn't even know it had.

Intermittent start issue it had ended up being an ignition switch so it starts consistently now, which is a big help for driveability lol.

I don't really know what else to add to this, hopefully it helps someone out who comes across this post one day and at least has a starting point for some issues.

Good luck and God speed!!
