R50/53 Can the hood be saved?

Per the question...yes.
Per your wallet, you may be money ahead hitting up local wreaking yard (if you have one not too far away).
To do it right, that inner panel needs to be cut out, complete the hood skin repair lotsa work, then weld in the inner structure back in place.
The crease in the center is offset enough, that it will most probably need some very time consuming work... The rest is no problem.
OR...do a simple repair and fill it with plastic filler. I ONLY bring this up because I've seen people do worse !

I would check with a local paintless dent repair before trying anything else. Some of them are incredibly skilled and have taken out dents much worse than this. Since that part of the hood should be easily accessible from behind it will make the repair easier for them.
