R50/53 Limp mode from supercharger replacement
Limp mode from supercharger replacement
Recently I put my 2003 r53 in front end service mode. After removing the supercharger to clean and replace oil, I realized a few gears were ruined. I got a new supercharger from Detroit tuned, and did the Alta 15% pulley. After attempting to start the car, it was in limp mode with the check engine light. I'm 95% sure I hooked everything up, but is it a possiblity that something happened to the ECU because I forgot to disconnect the battery after everything was removed from the front end. Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong. Thanks in advance!
I just replaced my s/c as well. You need to read what codes were thrown. That will help diagnose the problem. More than likely, you just forgot to hook something back up or tighten something down (see my thread on screaming intercooler boots).
I was just thinking about it, I never fully installed the front end, the bumper is still off the car, so non of the lights are plugged in, i don't see why it would, but would that possibly chase a code to be thrown?
You would throw codes but it should not have you in Limp Mode. The only codes should be from the Indicator/Fog lights.
That would definitely record fault codes. I couldn’t say whether it would trigger the SES light. The MINI (and all modern BMW cars) record “deep codes” that are only readable by BMW-aware code readers. Some of these faults don’t throw the SES light. I have four faults in my car and no light and the only reason I know it is because I installed the ISTA software and bought a BMW cable to read them. These happen to be harmless, I have also seen real faults that were about to Light the SES but hadn’t yet crossed whatever threshold BMW uses to determine when the SES light should come on. For instance, it will allow the occasional sensor reading to go out of spec. But do it enough times and it’ll turn the light on. Among my harmless fault codes is one telling me Something about my lights. So, you could very well be seeing that appear as an SES alert. Mine happens to be low priority. Nevertheless, I recommend being able to read these whenever you need to, and especially the BMW-specific codes.
