The sunroof heat really isnt a problem once you get a sunroof decal on it. We have the checker flag and it's great...I can see out of it and the heat is reduced quite a bit even without the shade closed.

Agreed, got a white decal on mine from the dealer, that way no big black blob in my white roof.

I got Ian's DSC off switch. I don't like DSC and only put it on in the rain for safety. Every day I have to turn out onto a busy road and I can not afford to have DSC cut the throttle when it senses a bit of wheelspin coming on because I am trying to fit into 45mph traffic while making a right hander from a stop sign. It is quite disconcerting to have that happen. Other people never accelerate that hard and would rather wait for a bigger gap in traffic to come. But I want to control the throttle all by myself, thank you. I may motor too hard!

Motor on!

We are about a block and half from 24th . But I have a reserved, secured garaged parking spot under my building, so parking won't be an issue for anyone but visitors . Yes, I pay through the nose for it .

I wish I did the 2AM last time but I was oncall..and sleeping at the time.

You're getting Koseis or Rotas? And did I see you on Alemany street a week or two ago? The PW MCS I saw was coming from San Bruno Ave and it was super low with S-lites.

Reflections on my option in an 02 S

Hi there, I have a 2002 MCS with tons of stuff. The things I like the best are

Heated Seats!
MFSW!
Xenons.

The nav system in 02 was only so-so. If you go to lots of places you haven't been before, it's nice, but otherwise I'd pass.

I didn't get rain sensing, not yet available.
I didn't get H/K, not yet available.
I didn't get the sunroof. I have a convertable (other car), but don't like them on principle.

I like the leather seats, but it was a bunch of $.

The biggest surprise was how nice the heated seats are on a cold morning!

No matter what you get, you'll love it!

And don't worry about the CVT. My dad has a freind that lived in SF, and after paying for tons of brakes and clutches, actually had both a Porsche and a Ferrari with autos..... Some of those hills are steep!

Welcome to No Cal!

Matt

Actually, I wasn't. Thought it was too torquey.

In other news, the delivery truck didn't arrive yesterday, so they are hoping it comes wither today or monday, so we'll see.

Driving the JCW I found, even with all season tires, in the rain, the tires were FAR too likely to start to spin. Perhaps a different tire choice would have been better for that car, but as delivered, the JCW MCS was too torquey for use as a daily driver.

^^^you know you don't have to floor the throttle all the time

...and to think that JCW's don't have the torque that a well put-together aftermarket package does, lol. During wintertime with my snows, I often play games and see if I can get my DSC light to blink the entire 15 mile drive home from work after a snowstorm!

Options I recommend for the MINI:
*MSFW - the radio controls are awesome, and you must buy MFSW to get cruise control.
*Cold Pack - the heated seats are wonderful if you live in a climate that ever gets somewhere near freezing
*Fog lights - for inclement weather and a full-row of toggle switches

Cheers,
Ryan

If I were going to get a second MCS, the spec will be:

DS/Black roof
Black Bonnet stripes
Sport Package
17" S-lites (at least I will have the 17 inch tires when I replace my wheels with a lighter set, you can't beat it for the price you are paying the dealer)
LSD
HK w/ aux port
IPOD controller (if not will go with the Dennison route)
MFSW
Chrono Pak - I don't have this and loved it when I saw it.
Chrome line interior and exterior
Panoramic Sunroof
Grey Letherette or Panther black
Anthracite dash
Anthracite Headliner
Xenon Lights
Driving lights
Rear Fog Lights

Oh, I almost forgot. JCW.

Let her learn on your new mini how to drive a stick> What are you worried about. That is what the maintanence package is for!

Let her burn out the clutch and they will replace it for free as long as it is within the 3yr/36,000 mile time limit

Get every package you can! I have the chrono dash package and love it!

The HK system is well worth it. I used to put high end systems in cars but this system rocks for what it does and you can add xm or sirius and many other sources very easily....

Are you sure? Most new car warrenties I have ever seen dont cover wear items (which the clutch and brakes are considered) for anything mroe than about 10K miles. Since I haven't actually bought my Mini yet (stupid truck didn't deliver this weekend), I can't look at the warrenty docs.

Well, if I like this one coming in this week, I will be getting every package I want. No Chrono pack for me though - I like the center speedo.
Yeah, but it doesn't interface with my iPod adapter (the Alpine), and my Alpine amps as well .
My car is almost identical to the one you are looking at getting. 05' MCS DS/B black bonnet stripes, all 3 packages, HK stereo, and grey & black leatherette interior. The only other major item I didn't get was the SatNav, I can read a map ! I wish I would have got the chrome line interior and exterior as these look really sharp on the DS/B combo.

Worn clutches are NOT expressly covered by your service or warranty contracts. Dealerships may opt to have it replaced under a "good-will" account, however this assumes you've both kissed major booty and they like you.
