Noise Emanating from fan belt area

My 2002 standard trans with 8000 miles has developed a squeek/noise that is originating from something connected to the fan belt. i.e. alternator, water pump?, tensioner.
Is there one particular item that is prone to failure here. Also it looks fairly involved to get at those items. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Fred

You need to remove the belt and see which item is making noise. You may have to remove the upper motor mount to change a few things.need to support the engine with a floor jack if that's the case. With the motor on the floor jack you can raise and lower it to get to bolts. Hope this helps. A Curtis

Could be anything........get one of those "Automotive Stethoscopes" that let you pin point noises and where they are coming from. They work really well.....just let the engine idle, and go around and touch the rod to each part/pulley/rotating thing...and see if you can hear where the noise is coming from.

These are cheap on amazon....

I would start with the tensioner pulley, then check to see if there is any fine black rubber debris near the crank pulley (aka Vibration Damper) this is a sign of the Vibration Damper is failing and needs to be replaced. OEM PN: 11237525135

After that I would check the alternator pulley and double check the rest from there.

Best of Luck.

Motor On!
