R50/53 Front strut problem

Front strut problem

I just put new ORM struts on the front of my 05 MCS. The drivers side strut with dust cap in place is slightly below the sheet metal hole but the passenger side is a good 1/2” above

Can thi be caused by a mushroomed strut tower
