help installing JCW airbox in R53
Hello,
I recently purchased a JCW airbox for my R53 and I have a few questions (in transit now). The electronic wiring may or may not come with it.
1) Do I need to hook up the electronics? Will the electronics even work if I don't have the ECU remapped? From reading this forum and others, seems like Mini wouldn't remap anyways, since I didn't buy the JCW tuning kit.
2) Do I install the vacuum hose if it doesn't come with the electronic wiring?
3) Do I just install it and don't hook up the vacuum hose?
Probably not the smartest purchase if I didn't figure out all of this before.
Thanks!

The jcw airbox is one of the best - so great choice.
I would tell you to just remove the flap inside and don’t worry about connecting the electric or vacuum- in the standard config these open up above a certain rpm (4500 if I remember correctly). If you remove the flap it breathes better all the time.
As to tune it it is not required the map sensor will sense the additional air and compensate. Later if you get some jcw injectors you can have the tune flashed on the ecu.

A lot of people with the JCW airbox disconnect the electronics and prop the flap open, or remove it altogether. The main reason for the flap was stricter noise restrictions in the UK.

I would NOT just prop the butterfly open (the "prop" could come out of position). It's a simple, 5 minute job to just remove it...no other work required. Save the fasteners and plastic butterfly for a later date.
I put my "extra" parts in a bag and tossed it into the glove box.
