Went to the dealer today to buy a car cover (time to put my MCS away for the winter). Looked in the MINI USA accessory catalog and found the cover listed at $197. When I arrived at the dealer, they told me there was a better quality cover available for $260 and that the cheaper cover was not very durable (virtually see-thru). I think the more expensive version has a zipper motif.

Seems like the aftermarket guys have the better deals. Who's got experience with covers and what do you like? My use will be mainly as a dust shield, indoors, but I would like the capability to use it outdoors occasionally (say, if on a trip).

If you go on the miniusa site...you will find that the $260 cover you described is listed as the "indoor" cover and the $197 cover is the "outdoor" cover. I bought a cover for my car from the dealer when I picked my car up last week. My salesguy told me to wash it as someone else had used it on their car and when it rained, it caused the dye from the cover to bleed on their car. So, I am now a little hesitant to use mine until I find out more information. I was thinking maybe mine was the indoor cover, but according to miniusa, the price I paid for my cover is the "outdoor" cover. My cover is a vinyl material, which would make me think it is for outdoors...whereas I would think the indoor cover would be a softer material since it doesn't need to be waterproof.

I'd like to see what other people's experiences have been with the car covers from the dealer and/or minusa.

I have been using the $197 cover(grey and black) for 5 months now. It has been through scorching heat and rain. Lots of dust and bird droppings. Washed it in my machine and air dryed it. It has been the best cover I have ever used to date. I have not noticed any scratching from it on my Mini.
LOVE IT!!
I love the Mini badges and design too!
Motor On!!

The two tone cover you can order via the official accesories booklet is nice, but a rip off. Since I don't have a garage and have three huge oak trees that constantly drop leaves and dirt (plus the birds dropping "stuff&quot I had to have a car cover. The best deal I found after much research was through Auto Anything. They have custom car covers for the MC and MCS in several different weaves depending on the amount of protection you need vs. the amount of cash you want to spend.
