My MA just told me that if I didnt get the Pre 05 rear fogs from the factory then it couldnt be done. she said that it cant be retrofitted to the pre 05s. I dont believe her, so can someone tell me whats going on.

 

The pre 05 MINIs were wired for rear fogs, sockets and bulbs are there. All you need to do is buy and install the toggle panel with rear fogs, then have the dealership activate them. A search on here for "rear fog" should get you the part number you need.

 

When I look on miniusa.com at the rear fog lights it looks like it is placed where a pre-05 backup light is. Anyone else have info on this?

 

I believe that's correct. The backup lights on the 05s are in the taillights now.

Not sure exactly what the cutoff date is for this, though. Is it all model year 05s? Or post 1/1/05 builds?

I told my MA (Julie at Classic) that I wanted to order a rear fogs retro kit for my 05 that's on order and she said okay. From what I understand, the retro fit kit isn't available for the 05s yet, so I'm wondering if mine will have the old rear fog like the 04s or maybe she's wrong about availability or maybe they're available now or maybe I'll be getting the wrong kit.

 

All '05s have the new-design rear lights with the incorporated back-up lights.

As was mentioned the rear fog(s) are now a single fog where the old back-up light was. On all cars built before the rear fog option was available this area is blacked out.

As far as I know the rear fog light retrofit kit is not yet available for the '05s, but rumor has it that it won't be long and should cost around $100 + installation. (it's $100 factory-installed)
