R50/53 MINI in the snow???
Now I really wanna convince my father to ge this car for me and he really likes the Jetta. I can't stand the car becuase I see at least 40-50 of them a day...I drove one today and got to tell ya, im pretty impressed, felt like butter. The tricky part is convincing my dad that the MINI is better, so far I have saftey, performance, and Im looking to add how well it will be able to perform in the snow. Ha anyone had experiences in the snow yet??? Any follow-ups would be appreciated. Snow is a problem here in Canada since all we have are ice rinks and igloos, lol. I figure if it snows hard enough for only trucks to go out, it doesn't matter what car you drive there all the same in the end but I really want an MCS, if you can write up on any experiences that'd be great.
I drove a VW Golf for 6 or 7 years and just bought a Cooper (not an S). Using snow tires on both cars, the MINI is as good (if not better) than the Golf in the snow. The "if not better" is because I've got DSC on the MINI. Without DSC, the MINI is about the same as the VW. I haven't tested the DSC out much, but if it does anything, that would make the MINI safer than the VW in the snow.
I drove my MINI for the first time early this morning in SOME snow. I'd say an inch or so were on the side roads this morning. I have 17" wheels but with the ALL-SEASON tires (which are like glue in the rain!). Without DSC, it was similar to a normal, front-wheel drive car. With DSC - excellent. - I could "feel" it coming on an making braking corrections. It climbed hills great and took corners perfectly. I know, just an inch or two is absolutely nothing. But, well, it is something!
