My mini Cooper 2005 air has been out of commission for proximately eight months the ignition key has not been plugged in our car has not been started with this affect electronics in my key and if so how do I recharge it

If you have the three button key, it should recharge while it is in the ignition of the vehicle.

It is possible to replace that rechargeable battery if you're so inclined.
