Italian Job Mini sold for $5000

I was watching the Barrett-Jackson auction and the studio that made the Italian job sold the the Classic Mini that Charlize drove for $5000. The buers were auctioninmg it and i did not watch the end but they thought it would go for $25-30K. The car was beautifully restored with all the latest replacements like the steering column etc.

My bad. I thought that it sold at $5k at Barrett-Jackson, not that the seller had purchased it elsewhere for $5k.

Yeah, I saw that. They buy it from Paramount studios for $5K, and it went for $38K. There's word it hit $39K at the very end. That's a nice little profit there. Sweet car too. But for $48K (CDN funds......gotta love that exchange rate).....ouchie. But I can't exactly brag about Charlize Theron's **** being seated in MY car though. Lucky dog, whoever got that.
Cheers,

That car wasn't nearly worth that. There was talk about that car on a classic mini forum. seems it wasn't restored at all. it was a late 90's car and it just needed a detail. they played title games to get it into ca and get a title for it. obvously the buyer bought it because it was in the movie not because it was a restored 60's model. Actually them selling it at auction knowing that it has questionable year serial nomber is fraud. but all the sources point that that car was indeed a late model car. Just ask yourself Why would a movie studio pay 30 -50K to restore a mini like they said in that show when you can find late model mini for under 10K that look just as good. I noticed there are quite a number of late model mini's on the web for sale with questionable titles. It doesn't bother me really as it is sily you cant have one car regitered in ca if it is new but you can if it is old, for the same exact car. the only difference is the date on the title.

Well when I start shopping for a classic for my collection I do want an older one so it has a carb. I want to be able to work on it myself without computers. That is the really great part about old cars, no smog and you can fix them yourself.

Saw the episode with the Mini and from what they said, the body was original, but the whole engine, tranny, steering wheel, etc., were all custom-designed and built, and not Mini, at all. People will pay big bucks for anything related to movies! How silly!

I watch the show after they sold the mini for 39k and they disqualified it. Anyone know why?
