R50/53 Rock-Solid Phone for Track Day Timing/Video
Rock-Solid Phone for Track Day Timing/Video
Love love Harry's Lap Timer for my track events, HPDE's, etc. Current iOttie mount isn't up to the task in the R53.... (sad).
Who has a unbeatable iPhone 6 Plus mount for the R53 windshield to capture video on top of lap data/timing???!
Thank you in advance!

A bit of a troubling trend is most phone holders are moving away from phone model perfect fit cradle for most folks don't want to keep buying cradles.
Thank you!
That does look rock solid. Can the cradle be used with a phone cover or just naked phone?
I'm not too averse to an x-brace with good springs. It like the cradle for its contact with the phone case being more than 4 points.

Of course you can get RAM's X cradle.
iPhone 6s plus a curse?
The track video that I took with Harry's Laptimer using iPhone 6s plus this Friday is very shaky. I used the RAM mount with the iPhone 6s on the windshield just behind the rearview mirror. While I knew to withhold my enthusiasm using the phone camera with the app, I actually tested the same mount with my now-surplus iPhone 5s on public road before I invested in Harry's Laptimer. I did that to test the iPhone camera. While it is very civilized driving it clearly is less shaky. Hence my suspicion that the normally great iPhone 6s optical stabilized camera likely is ill-suited (not tuned nor there is provision to switch to disable optical stabilization) to motorsport video, while the digital image stabilization in the rather obsoleted 5s may actually better for the application.
I just want to show the shakiness is likely due to the iPhone camera behaviors rather than the Ram Mount.

OK, a little update... I ordered the RAM cross-mount with twist-lock from Amazon. Will arrive Thursday so I'll have a couple hours to figure it out before Friday's HPDE....
Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Now I try to find it again and I could no longer find the page within the app
. Harry's is not the most polished track app, but I think is the best at this price point. I do appreciate the complexity of the app ability to be configured and used with countless sensors and camera permutations. Also the fault may be with the iPhone OS. I have seen apps disappears in the OS's Settings, including Harry's.
You are giving me a bad case of track envy. I am too late to sign up for the event and not hopeful being on waitlist.
Out of the topic, but the sound is very familiar. Did the cat welding came off at 4:45 of the video, before you exit the track ?

Yes. That is when it happened. It sounded like an IED went off but the AGC of the iPhone adapted to the huge increase of sound level immediately, treating it like ambient noise floor. For the rest of the time exiting the track I thought I blew the engine, especially seeing a huge puff of blue smoke in the rearview mirror. That turned out were from the Honda Civic behind and they black flagged him off the track.

Before that track day, I wanted to go to another track that is 60 miles away but I decided not to thinking if something happen on the track far away from home things can get expensive. Had I gone there I have no doubt it would fail there on the track.
I am looking forward to the next track day in September.
