R50/53 Bentley Service Manual
Bentley Service Manual
Hey Do-It-Yourself MINI people,
I just received my Bentley service manual from Amazon and am very pleased with it on first inspection. If you're not familiar with Bentley manuals they are more detailed than the typical bookstore stock stuff (chiltons, haynes, etc.) At just under two inches thick this manual covers 2002-4 Cooper and S models. It is loaded with step by step procedures that are accompanied by numerous photos. The wiring diagrams are covered in detail over 184 pages not all compacted on one page like the other publications tend to do. 28 pages list diagnostic codes.
I don't work for Bentley or Amazon, but I do like to do my own work.
Check it out, I think this is a major plus for any MINI owner.

hi beeps,
I was wondering if it has the required torque settings for the motor mounts used in a pully upgrade as well as other important points of contact. I'm also planning on getting a manual myself, but wanted to know if this information is there.
Thanks

city hunter mini,
I'm not sure which mounts are involved in the pulley upgrade but the manual lists torque specs. Here are a few but again I don't know which ones you'll need:
Engine mount bracket to engine mount 68 Nm (50 ft-lb)
Engine mount bracket to transmission 38 Nm (28 ft-lb)
Mount bracket to cylinder head 100 Nm (74 ft-lb)
Hydraulic engine mount to engine mounting bracket 68 Nm (50 ft-lb)
Upper engine vibration damper bracket to damper or to engine mounting bracket 100 Nm (74 ft-lb)
The manual has the torque numbers next to the respective reassembly steps and also in a collective chart at the end of the subchapters.

Here's the install for a pulley off of Webb Motorsports

If you look at his how-to, the torque specs are the only thing missing - can you make out if all of the major bolts he removed are listed in those charts. Guess I'll need to cross reference those components when I get the manual.
Thanks Again

 Thanks Beeps for the post. I'm awaiting arrival of ours - guess it should be showing up any time. Giving it to hubby for Christmas...shhhhhh...

City Hunter Green,
That is some detailed photo sequence at the Webb Motorsports site. Too bad they left out the torque specs. Matching up the photos as best I could here's what it looks like:
Photo 5: Lower engine vibration damper to oil pan 100 Nm
Photo 7: Transmission mount bolts to transmission 66 Nm
(same for the trans bolt to upper bracket)
Photo 12: Top engine vibration damper bracket to engine 100Nm
Photo 13: Hydraulic engine mount to body 100 Nm
Once again I haven't done the procedure but from the photos that's what it looks like. When you get the manual check out sections 110 (engine removal for both models) and 113 (cylinder head) for the part names and specs.
For $68 (free shipping) I think Bentley is the most valuable MINI accessory we can get. At least its got to be up there with the glove box organizer and the parcel shelf.
To all MINI people,
Have fun getting your hands dirty!
