R50/53 80K service, what needs to be done
80K service, what needs to be done
Hi All,
Rupert is nearing his 80,000 mile service. I know I'll get the oil changed and plug and filter replaced. What else should be done at this time? I'm hoping it isn't a huge money service, I'm a little light on dough right now...

At 80,000 miles I would also replace the serpentine belt and tensioner. Also, check your LCA bushings, ball joints, and shocks for wear and or slop in them. If you haven't swapped out your oem shocks yet, it's time. Other than that...if it's running and driving good, I wouldn't get too worried. Just keep up normal oil/filter changes and you should be good for a long time.
Curious, when was the last time the supercharger, transmission fluid and cooling system were serviced? Check out the condition of your engine mounts. Check your spark plug wires and coils. Agree, the control arm bushings might need a refresh and if you go that route you might want to look into Powerflex, giving you prolonged life and better handling.

We normally do the Spark plugs and drive belt along with an oil change at 60k. For other things just inspect it and see what you really do need if anything.
The control arm bushings wear out about 40k on the R53 and we only use the powerflex as you will never have to replace them again. So if they haven't been done before it might be good to put on the list.
