exhaust differences for performance

We have 2 ...2006 R50 auto

Love them both.

But Tiffany car has more" pick up" at the start.

hers has a Walker exhaust..

Mine had a VERY loud one...like an old " glass pack".

Ordered one from the internet and had my friend at Mieneke put in.

Just seems like it does not have the same pick up. Tiffany seems faster from a dead stop

I would say the difference is about 10%.

Could a different .....quiet exhaust make a difference in pick up performance ?

All else being equal:
This is a simplified explanation to a very very complex topic but what most likely happened with your car is the muffler you installed reduced the systems back pressure costing you power at lower RPM compared to a stock style system (like the walker system). Yes the glass pack will make more power over all but only on the top end and usually at the expense of low end torque. The 1.6L engine in your car doesn't produce enough exhaust gas flow to need the extra flow capacity the straight through design gives you, so the only real thing the glass pack did was make your car louder. I'd put a fresh stock style exhaust back on it and I bet you all would be equal again - and driving won't give you a headache and annoy your neighbors.

Reduced back pressure usually shifts the torque curve to the right. Less low end, more high end power. Couple other variables in there though, like if axle back vs catback vs header back vs. catted or non-catted.
