R50/53 Using the + Battery terminal in the engine compartment
Using the + Battery terminal in the engine compartment
Just a quick question:
I need a direct power source for additional fog lights. I really don't want to tap
into the oem fuse panel.
Just wanted to know if using the + battery connection in the R53 engine
compartment would be OK to use ?
I'm setting up separate fuses and relay to power the new lights with an aftermarket lighted switch and fog lights.
Thanks for the replies. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

the way the factory kit taps into the fuse panel is actually very clean and easy ... you don't really touch the fuse panel at all. You just put a ring type connector on your power wire, lift the main power line bolt to the fuse panel and slip the ring in then put the bolt back in. You may need to enlarge the opening where the wires come in a little for your new wire but that's 2 minutes with a sharp knife on plastic ....
either see the pdf install file for factory driving lights or PM me with an e-mail and I can send you some extracts and pictures.

I run a 10ga wire off of the positive battery lug in the fuse box in the engine compartment and run it to my methanol injection pump. Like others have said, as long as you have a fuse in the system, you are good to go.
