06 MCS R53 with 17" S Lite wheels- tire choices

Hi all,

Been searching through the threads as I need new tires for my ride. Currently, I have 215R4517 Yokahama run flats on it now. Planning to go to all season non RF. Saw a bunch of stuff on the Conti ExremeContact DWS tires from an old thread. I found the DWS 06 version now. Does anyone have these installed? Are they as good as the originals?

Also, stock size on my car is 205. Prev owner installed the 215s, which I like the look of better. I'm guessing there is no issue with the slightly wider tire if it's working fine now, right?

Thanks for the help.

Just looked, Tire rack still has the Extreme Contact DWS in the 215/45/17 size. These are great tires. I ran three sets of them on two different BMW's (Z4Si and a 335is). On the Z4Si I blew through the Dragon, and several other really fun roads, with barely a squeak several times. Given the choice between them and the newer DWS 06 I would stick with the originals.

Otherwise, on my Mini (2005 R53 S Hatch) I'm running Sumitomo HTR A/S P02's. I think they are a great tire for the money. Quiet and good grip, rain or shine, the are reasonably hard and should get pretty good wear.

They claim to be a A/S tire, but frankly the only high performing tire that tire rack endorsed as a A/S were the Conti EC DWS. Its just tough to get a tire that grips and find one that does okay in the snow/ice. I live in rural South Georgia, so snow/ice are not issues.

Tire Rack has the Sumitomo's in 215/45/17 although I run 205's (I have 7.5" wide BBS R90's).

Good Luck
Bruce

I run bf goodrich g force comp 2's on my S-lights in 205-45 R17. Mine are summer use only but they make an A/S version that might be good. I don't see a problem with 215-45 you might be able to go 215-40 for a slightly shorter sidewall.

My wheels are 17x7, and I've been running 215 width tires (215/45) for a few years now. The only issue I had was some rubbing in the rear when I went lower (1" drop w/lowering springs). A dremmel and some settling has solved or self-corrected that issue quite nicely.

You should be find with either 205 or 215.

I had the DWS's on my Jag, they were very quiet and gripping. The only issue I had, there was more body roll vs Toyo's I had installed prior to the DWS's

215/45/17 will have a much larger selection therefore cheaper tires than 205/45/17

DWS are great tires if you need 1 tire
