Recommended Code Scanners

Howdy all,

I've resisted, but it's time to take the plunge into the world of ODBII code scanners for Scarlett the 2005 MCS. I'm looking for recommendations. Some things I'm thinking about:

- I'm inherently cheap :D But I want something halfway decent...so looking for good value.

- I'd like to be able to see live parameter data if that feature is not too terribly expensive.

- Want ability to clear the codes and adaptive values.

- I am intrigued by the idea of the kind that interface to software on a laptop, or maybe even an Android phone.

- I know about the MINI specific codes...how often are they useful above and beyond the generic codes?

Anything else I need to know? What type do you all like?

Thanks, Jeremy

Can INPA reset my passenger airbag light without going to to dealer?

Inpa is what the dealer's used to use, lots of eBay auctions for it and the cable. It can be had for free but you do need a cable

Does Torque or INPA give live sensor feedback?

You can test sensors with the schwaben tool and is all-in-one unit. Just another option. It has MINI specific codes. If you dont perfer the app and cable set up.

I liked it because i could see the convertible top sensors and if they are activated. I could also see failed PDC sensor and also stored faults the dealer did not erase. Like an old history lesson of the car.

The airbag light is probably a bad passenger seat weight sensor, called a mat. Ours was doing that. There's a safety recall on that which came out a year or so ago. They replaced ours for free!

Yes! Our story is similar, it's a RECALL, not a warranty. We got a letter as registered owners of an affected vehicle. I'd call your MINI dealer; give them your VIN and ask if the passenger side seat sensor mat recall applies to your car.

Does your pass air bag light just stay on all the time?

Call your Mini dealer with your VIN. You might be surprised.

Are you running the VGS mod? It threw a code for me.

What's VGS? Does it have to do with the bypass valve?
