Automatic Variable Transmission

Hi,

This is my first posting here, just bought a Mini this weekend.

When I drive very slow, like in a traffic jam or in parking lots (about 10 mph) the car jerks back and forth as if it is trying to shift all the time. The dealer said this was normal, part of the avt ? Anyone have the same experiece?

thanks
manuel

yes, that is normal for the CVT. Driving with this automatic transmission is a little different from others, and takes some learning. For tips, do a search of this site on CVT - lots of contributions.

Also try and find out from your dealer which software version your ECU is. The newest one (v. 38.1) significantly reduces the 'bouncing' effect.

The CVT is certainly a different beast though! As said above, read all of the CVT posts that you can!

mnauta,

That's quite normal for the CVT MINI. I've driven mine now for....16 months (May 2003 build) and although the "back and forth" (or yo-yo) motion when crawling in traffic is not as noticeable as it was when I took delivery, it does in fact still do that once in a while.... not a problem, just a quirk.

motor on,

-MB
