Aero Kit Question

Mini produced aero kits that were factory painted in some of their colors. This was quite cost effective since it only added about $150-$200 to the cost of the kit.

I just got off the phone with Classic Campus and they said that the '05 kits do not come factory painted. Has anyone heard any word on this?

my understanding is that the pre-painted aero kits were never available in the US due to damage during shipping. I am getting just the aero front end on my 05 MCS and it will have to be painted locally.
I would love to have the factory painted bits. Anyone know if you can get them?

AFAIK, the only part of the aero kit available pre-painted is the spoiler.

When I had the Aero kit installed on my 04 MCS by Classic it came pre painted in BRG. I was charged $2100.00 for the kit including installation. I think this worked out to be about the same cost if the kit was not pre painted and needed to be painted by a body shop and then installed.

BTW Classic did a fantastic job.

Do UK people have problems shipping large parts? I have parts coming across the pacific ocean (from Japan), pre-factory painted arriving at my door steps with not even one scuff.

On the other hand, aero parts getting damaged, Milltek exhaust hangers come in bent up, etc. what's the deal?

DiD,

I know a couple of people who have received the prepainted aero kits. Classic was selling them for $2100 installed.

I obtained a BRG factory prepainted kit for my '04 MCS from Classic only two weeks ago. The entire kit was painted, not just the front spoiler. The price as I recall was somewhere around $1300 plus shipping. I am installing the kit myself. The kit arrived in perfect shape with no damage in shipping from the UK, or from Classic to Florida.

$1300 is not a bad deal for a factory painted Aero kit.

How difficult is it to install?

I can confirm that the Aero kit can be ordered pre-painted from your local Mini dealer. If you want a certain piece of the kit (front end, side skirts) then it is only available unpainted.

I bought the aero side skirts from Classic back in the spring. They did the painting for me which saved me about $50 over what it would have cost me locally. The skirts were packed very well and arrived in perfect condition. Love the look of the aero skirts.

Hey FloridaChris. thanks! Based on your post, I have ordered an Aero Kit for my '05 MCS (Chile Red). Classic charged me $1300 for the factory painted kit. It should be in next week. My Mini dealer wanted $1200 for the kit in primer! Thanks again for the info!

gt6,

What did you pay for the painted side skirts from Classic, I have been toying with this idea.

How hard is it to install the aero kit yourself? Are there any special tools required? How long does it take a person with average mechanical skills?

No special tools required, just stuff that you would find in a normal tool box; screw driver, plliers, etc. Ramps really make a difference if you have them but they are not a necessity. It took me 1-1.5 hours total. A lot of the time was just looking over the parts and test fitting. Total active time was about 45 minutes.

I installed only the side skirts. The other parts also use normal tools, nothing special.

According to the 'official' Mini aero kit install guide, the only thing that looks a little tricky is moving the driving lights to get them to line up with the aero kit. Go to motoringfile.com - they have a lot of useful info there.

Anyone know if you still have to move the driving lights on the lower part of the front end? The Mini instructions are pretty old.

My dealer is wanting $2900 for the kit installed after painting.

So it seems like it makes much more sense to tell them to order the kit prepainted. I don't know why they don't just do that. Oh yeah, profit....

So is there a part number I can use? (in jet black) I haven't been impressed by my motoring adviser to date...

What is "Classic" that you are referring to. I'm collecting vendors. Do you have a link?

Aero kits are installed at the dealer as an add on, not from the factory. The kit only comes in primer so it can accommodate any color MINI being painted and installed at the dealer. If Classic is prepainting aero kits they seem to be the only ones doing it. As far as aftermarket aero kits from other companies I can’t say about painting.

I ordered my pre-painted kit through classic mini... look at the vendors list and you will find them.

My kit was painted in Germany (Factory) (The aero kit comes from Germany) -- ordered by Classic Mini and then shipped to me. The boxes were pretty beat up when it arrived but the parts were in good shape.

I paid $1360. Great deal!

Jeff

Sndwave,

The prepainted kits come straight from Mini and Classic isn't the only one that orders them. Any Mini dealership can get them. The only issue is that the factory only sells a few different colors.

call your dealership. I know a few of them off the top of my head. Dark Grey for the MCS, Silver for the MC, Indi Blue for the MCS (not sure yet what is replacing this one), Red for the MCS. I am not sure which other ones they have.
