R50/53 Bird Problems
Bird Problems
I just got my MINI Cooper S about a month ago and everytime I park it in the parking lot at work, the crows have a party on it. It started out with the usual bird droppings but here lately they're getting destructive. They've scratched the passenger side door, fighting with their reflection. They also have pushed down the rubber seal around the rearseat windows.
Other than buying a car cover, is there any other way to keep them off of my baby?? Got a secret formula to "feed" the birds to keep them off of it permanently?

Your complaining about birds. Well My MCS is all yellow and the flies and all the insects love to stick to my car
Wow - I feel bad, but you guys made me laugh pretty hard!
Do you have an alarm that beeps when you press the button? Maybe you could park close to a window, and when you see them, press the alarm button. Condition them!
I know that in vineyards, they use silver shiney stips (like tinsel for X Mas tree). They tie these strips on the vines, to keep the birds from eating the grapes. Not sure how you can temporarily attach them to your car. Does this happen to other peoples cars? What is it about yours that's so special.
Also, try parking in a "high walking traffic" area. Maybe the birds won't get so comfortable if people are constantly moving around.
Just some ideas... good luck!

My mother has a theory re: birds...
They get so excited when they see the MINIs that they cannot help but void the contents of their birdie colons.
I'm sure the same holds true for the frenzied scratching provoked by avian excitation.

Whoa...you do have my sympathy! Those are some aggressive...or crazy....or just brazen....birds!! If it were me and it was at work, I'd try some different parking spots to see if you can lose them. Proximity to light poles, or trees, or fence lines may make a difference. If that fails, I'd probably break down and get a lightweight car cover. Good for your peace of mind anyway....and keeps other "stuff" off your MINI, too. Either way, do not tolerate your MINI being desecrated...do whatever it takes!!!

I heard that there is a battery operated noise maker that makes a predatory bird noise that keeps the birds away. I think it was on NPR last week. Maybe you could mount it in the tree and scare them away?
I think I may have a solution.
First, birds are stupid and probably looking at their reflections. Try turning the car around backwards so the windows pick up different light and reflections. That might fool them into looking for another spot.
Second, try cleaning your windows and trim with THIS. I accidently had this bottle sitting on the garage floor (just bought it) and the neighbors cat, who loves to walk all over our cars, walked near the bottle and "meowed" and walked around it and wouldn't go near it. So I cleaned the windows really well and put the cat on the hood of the car and the cat practically clawed the paint trying to get away from the car! Maybe the birds will react the same way and stay away! It does have a slightly "different" chemically smell. Not obnoxious to me but animals hate it! Makes me happy. GREAT glass cleaner as well!
Hey, you never know!
