Sport Seats

Hello everybody. I've been reading through all your posts now for the last few days while I wait for February to come around so I can order my BRG MC to pick up in April.

For lots of reasons I have decided that April is Mini Month.

One thing I ma curious about is the sport seats. I've test driven with the regular seats and I find myself with enough headroom (I'm 6'1" +/-). But I like the sport seat look and the armrest option in 05.

Will it get to crowded with all that? Do the sport seats raise the driver?

Thanks,

Robin

cyberobin,

Aloha and welcome to NAM.

Crowded? No. Should be OK.

Sport seats include larger side bolsters for support and an insert at the front of the seat for extra thigh support, this does not raise your driving position per se compared to the regular seats. All seats have a six way manual adjustment including up/down for height.

Welcome cyberobin! I have the MCS with the sports seats in leatherette. Love 'em. I'm just over six feet and this car has lots of room to spare for me. I don't even have the seat set all the way back. Also I have the panoramic sunroof. Some sunroofs actually lessen the headroom in the car, but not the MINI. Again, room to spare!

Godspeed.

You too can fit!

One of my favorite stories:

A guy at work, one of our test technicians, 6'7" sat in my MINI-'03 MCS w/ sports seats (wish I had the camera that day); had plenty of headroom left, and didn't even push the seat back all the way.
I am roughly 6'1" - never had an issue.

I have the sports seats, love them, so confortable! My cousin,6'4" hoppeed in the drivers seat, after moving all the way back had to move it forward to reach the pedals properly. He also had plenty of head room with the seat all the way down.

No problem!

Depends on how tall you are. I've got two friends, both very tall (one is 6'4" and the other is about as tall), and both fit comfortably in their S's with sport seats. But the first one intentionally didn't get a sunroof because it cut about 1.5" from his headroom, making his head uncomfortably close to the roof. The other had problems fitting in the car with a helmet on at the track... don't remember if he has the sunroof in his car or not.

Get the sport seats! My first MINI had them and my current MINI does not. I can say from experience that the sports seats are very comfortable  and the non-sport seats are not.

I'm also about 6'1" and have not had a problem with head room in either car. In fact, the MINI is the first car I've owned where I did not need to put the seat as far back as it would go.

one thing i do complain about the sports seat is that it is defenitely far from the best seats in the world.. but they are comfortable enough for daily use, and for mountain carving, only when autoxing and tracking would you want some sholder support

I have the sport seats and agree they are not the most comfortable in the world. The sport seats in my Focus ZX3 were much more enjoyable. I have found the seat risers to be uncomfortable on my thighs and overall the seat to be a little to hard.

I am 6'1" and agree with everyone else about the head room. The only time I have an issue with it (I also have the sunroof) is when I have the seat pumped up in the full high position. At that height I can't wear a hat or lean very far to the left.

The sport seats are fantastic IMO. I would definitely try them out yourself though as some folks seem to find them very uncomfortable but I put in a 2,600 miles trip this summer with no discomfort.

For reference, I've had two back surgeries and am 6'3".
