Yesterday I took my passenger side window and regulator assembly out from the door so repair. The cable has slipped off a pulley.
The window is seccured to the window regulator by two cog-wheel shaped screw up clamps. I had read on Pelican Parts guide that they accept a 5mm hex key in the center. However I found it very tricky to get it in there, and then it was a loose fit anyway so the socket just rounded off leaving me with no way to get the window out. A 5.5mm hex is too big to fit and I tried imperial too, so it's some unusual size.
To cut to the chase I made a very simple and effective DIY tool to release the window clamps.
It is simply a strip of wood, in my case a scrap piece of 9mm thick birch plywood 250mm long and 25mm wide.
I put a couple of screws through the end, spaced apart 54mm. I cut the ends off the screws so they only protude 5mm. I used and angle gridger but a hacksaw would do. Job done!
