snapped a pic of an early R53 recently in Iceland; note the lack of "Cooper S" badging on the trunklid, and the placement of same ahead of the rear wheels on the quarters. Is this OEM? Car seems stock otherwise. Anyways kinda cool, just wondering if it's a Euro/Scandinavia spec or something.

So did they ever come from the factory with the Cooper S on the sides but not on the trunklid?

They don't come from the factory with the emblem on the side like that. It comes from the factory on the trunk like where I have my R53 badge now. I did not get it from Out Motoring but instead bought the letter and numbers from ebay.

 

Very Cool ! ...Me Like alot ......I did something similar to my 2006 MCS ..Bought "R53" Vinyls on Ebay ...but the colors are reversed red "R" and silver "53" to tie into my roof and sideview mirrors but placed on either side of my lower quarter panels ...

 

Yea, its the clean look in europe , some people remove the wings MINI logo also or black it out. Never seen it put on the lower side panel, nice find.
