2002 Mini Cooper s exhaust upgrade, Ecu tune

Hi everyone. Now I know this may be an obvious answer, but I'm not super handy when it comes to the fancy bmw computers and whatnot. So basically what I plan to do in the soon future, is upgrade my exhaust and maybe remove my cat next year because I will legally be able to remove it for emissions because it will be 15 years old. So what I wanted to know is that if I were to put on new mufflers, would I need to bring the car in to be tuned? Same question with the cat. I've heard some things that doing these modifications can be a huge pain on the ecu. I did have to replace my computer a while back because it was firing on 2 cylinders. But anyways if anyone could give me feedback that would be great! Thanks!

No, a tune is not needed when changing the exhaust. The ecu on the MINI adapts, so it will adjust itself, if needed. You might do a ecu reset to force it to readjust itself to the exhaust changes, and your driving habits. The reset may, or may not make any noticable difference, but it cant hurt.

Thank you so so much I really thought I'd have to mess with it. Now is this also true if I were to add a cold air intake? I saw someone else do it online and they talked about increasing their injector size but I'm not entirely sure on that. But again thank you sooo much that really clears a lot of things up for me.

only need a tune if you move to 440 or 550 cc injectors, even swapping to the 380's you don't need a tune. a tune will get the most out of the motor and can be beneficial at any time

Oh okay thanks. So if I were to add a cold air intake, would that require me to change the injectors due to it cause lung a lean mix or would the ecu adjust? Sorry if that's confusing.
