fancy sauce r53 build thread
Hello. I bought an 03 r53 in November 14, 2014 with 80,164 miles on it. It now has 82,037. Here's a bit of background info, and some plans for what's to come. This thread will mainly be for documenting my progress and keeping track of what I've done.
The car was purchased with a couple issues that were to be addressed by the dealer after the parts arrived. The cv boot was torn, so the axle was to be replaced as it was already clicking, and the key fob buttons were missing so I was to get a new key as well. I took the car back for the replacements and upon pickup was informed that he had only replaced the boot, so the axle still clicked and he replaced the fob with a chinese knockoff ebay case. It wasn't worth the time to argue, and it was my mistake for not getting it in writing. Oh well.
So over the next year, I put about 500 miles on the car. It was taken on a trip to Napa and otherwise sat for the most part as my girlfriend and i use her camry to commute.
It seemed like every other time it was driven something else would break. Between Miles 80,664 and 82,037 the ac compressor went out, the passenger window motor began to fail (used the tap trick to get it closed), then while my girlfrend was driving the car, the window regulator failed. The windshield washer fluid pump went out, the tires began to dry rot, and this week it developed a belt squeak. Oh, and the clear coat on the bumpers is staring to peel. Off to a great start.
So far I have acquired:
jcw carbon fiber dash
jcw carbon/leather shift **** and parking brake handle
new leather shift/brake boots
megan coilovers
aluminum coolant tank
ddmworks intake
radiator fan
ac compressor, and associated parts
passenger axle
window regulator/motor
oem ipod integration kit
oem rubber floor mats
minimania rear sway bar
cravenspeed tower defenders
ngk plugs
Work done so far:
installation of jcw carbon fiber interior pieces
replaced ugly aftermarket deck with an oem headunit
installed ddmworks intake
installed tower defenders
replaced window motor/regulator
replaced dry tires with hankook ventus v12
Immediate plans:
install new radiator fan
install aluminum coolant tank
coolant "flush"
purchase & install 15% pulley, new belt, plugs, and tensioner
new fuel filter
oil change
install ipod integration
find/install shift/brake boots...no idea where they are
look through the car to see what else needs replacing
Near future plans:
replace axle
install coilovers
install sway bar
probably new ball joints
alignment
powerflex motor mount bushings
new key
Long term plans:
exhaust (undecided)
wheels (undecided)
detroit tuned bypasss valve
bbk (undecided)
repaint bumpers
paint/wrap roof and mirrors from white to black
upgrade coilovers
gp wing
I'm sure I'll add to this list as we go...
Anywho, I'll upload some pics and update the thread as I go. Progress will be slow as I work full time while in an evening law school program.

Welcome, nice to have such low miles on an 03.
When you do the axle don't get a cheapo one they are nothing but future failures or vibrations. Let us know if we can help with any other parts.

I will definitely be making another purchase from you soon. Went to buy a wmw pulley, fuel filter kit, and tensioner stop yesterday, but saw the tensioner was on backorder. Really appreciated the help I got from you/an employee on my strut tower plates and for quick shipment of my window regulator tool though!
