Was under the rear end yesterday and noticed that the driver's side final stage (not sure if thats the correct term or not) of the exhaust before the exhaust tips did not have a support strap on it. I can see where the strap would mount and compared to the left one but was curious if A)that part is available and B) if there is a drawing that shows how it fits around and bolts in?
Wow, should have known better but I called my local dealer and the screw that's listed on RealOEM.com at $0.89 costs $5 each at the dealership. What a $*#$%% ripoff.
Some dealers charge over list price. Fasteners often come in 10-packs, so some dealers want you to cover their cost on the 10-pack even when you want one. Try the online sources (I find ECS Tuning or Mass Mini to have better pricing, as a couple of reference points).
For whatever reason, "discount" BMW dealers offer a better discount than "discount" MINI dealers, even though they share a distribution system. Many part numbers are shared at BMW and MINI (and two different parts will not share the same number), so try calling your local BMW dealer or check BMW sources online.
BMW South Atlanta is usually cheap if you order online (there were 10% discount codes floating around a year ago, too) but not as cheap as Husker BMW or Fairfax BMW (exact pricing varies by part, shipping costs vary, etc).
P.S. BMW dealers are not allowed to sell BMW parts for MINI's, so don't enter your VIN or else they will cancel the order - just order the part by number...
Couldn't find that bolt on the BMW parts sites. Guess it is MINI specific.
But, did see the details - it is a M8 x 1.25 (pitch) by 25mm long. Grade 8.8. I would have no hesitation to use the $1.35 (for 2) bolt from Home Depot that matches the grade. Up to you...
Thanks guys. Went on and grabbed the OEM MINI lower bracket and bolts. Sadly, though, when I went to install the bracket I found out that the upper welded bolt/threaded receiver on one side was missing. The outboard one was there but the inboard was gone. Guess the weld broke or rusted off and so I couldn't make the repair. Looks like a pain to replace the upper portion of the bracket as it appears to involve removing those rubber shock absorber things and I really don't want to have to lower the entire exhaust system to fix this. Maybe Capt BJ is right and I'll just swing in to a local muffler shop. ARGH!
