R50/53 now what have i done

now what have i done

When I dropped the sub frame to change PS hoses and such, I thought all was well, till I saw this

What did I do wrong, I don't think I did, but how can I correct this?

I can't tell what that is. Is it the steering shaft?

yes, it the sheering shaft threw the firewall.

Looks like you might need to try and free up enough play to center your steering input and realign the grommet .
This might or might not involve removing the entire subframe again.

I haven't taken one apart inside the car yet, only from the bottom. Wonder if it would be easier to do it that way now that the subframe is back together. Guess it depends on how much stuff you already have put back together

Did you not connect the steering rack to the steering column?
