R50/53 Front Spring Color Meaning
Front Spring Color Meaning
I recently replaced one of the front struts on my 04 R50 MT with a used strut and spring from an 05 R50 AT. I noticed the springs had different color markings on them.
The one I took off had two green lines and the one I put on had two blue lines.
I know typically manufacturers use color lines on springs to indicate spring rating.
Does anyone know what the difference is between the two blue lines vs two green lines?
Usually automatic transmissions are heavier so maybe the AT donor vehicle had heavier rated front springs. Just want to know if I have to go back in and swap the springs.

The little paint marks tell the spring type / rate , but its not a easy cross ref. . Springs are chosen from you VIN and options and that how MINI and ECS Tuning does it. Cant go by paint marks.

Anyone know how to determine what the colors mean? I searched around on ebay and looked at other used struts and some are blue and some are green springs. Both are saying they are stock, non JCW models. I can't call the mini dealer in Chicago they're awful.
There is no good database of the color and options, also if the paint mark is worn off or not legible then you don't know what it is.
When you replace springs , its best to get in pairs and matched to your car. Shoot me your VIN and info , i can help.
Also what are the new struts vs the old struts, Cooper , Cooper S ?

Mine is 2004 Mini Cooper R50 1.6L MT VIN:WMWRC33444TC48643
Donor vehicle is 2005 Mini Cooper R50 1.6L AT VIN:WMWRC33415TJ64777
I can swap the other strut as well, just dreading it since I had to drill out the pinch bolt on the drivers side holding the bottom of the strut.
Thanks!!!
