There are a few orange bars on the tach before red lining which look like they would light up when the needle reaches that point. Mine don't light up. Are they supposed to?

 

I went through a long tunnel the other day and noticed those lines glowing even though the headlights and other dash lights were NOT on.

I don't know if that helps or not.

 

They should be lit up ALL THE TIME, whether the headlights are on or not. Any time the car is running. I'd take it in for a fix.

When you say the first 3, do you mean at 1k, 2k, and 3k? Or, do you mean around 6k, where the closely grouped hashes of the "redline" starts? (I'm pretty sure the redline varies with CVT, 5-speed, 6-speed)

All of the closely grouped hashes of the "redline" area should be lit constantly. Whether the lights are on or off. The lower RPM hashes do not light. - but that would be neat if they did.

Ummmm. As I'm typing I realized something that makes me wonder if I'm even right. I have the CVT. My "redline" begins at 5.5k. Thus, all of my hashes from 5.5k up are lit. If you have a 5-speed with the higher "redline", maybe they don't light up until the 6k (or wherever the "redline" starts)?

Now I'm confused! :???: OK, someone bail me out here! Blimey still needs an answer. I've failed.

Mine are on at about say, 67,500 rpms.... from what other posts have suggested, if you are having engine problem, they light up to indicate where the 'safer' redline is for the problems you are having... so if they are all light up, i'd take it to the dealer... if none of them are lit, you better head over there also...
