R50/53 2006 R53 6 speed w/o LSD Fluid?
2006 R53 6 speed w/o LSD Fluid?
Recently purchased a 2006 R53, 6 speed w/o LSD. I've read threads, accessed part sites and Googled until my eye fell out and brain has exploded as to which Fluid to use in this transmission.
I'm thinking of using Redline MTL, but I look on other threads and sites and they say use Redline D4 AFT because of it being a 2006.
Please help? Very Confused.

I have a 2006 and I use MTL. They are both good, but most people choose D4 because they are in colder climate. I am in central florida, we rarely get cold winter. I have never experienced notching gear shifting with the MTL fluid.
My suggestion..go OEM/OEM equivalent...
Most dealers will sell you the fluid, bring a jug....
For a daily driver, going to an "upgraded" fluid that might impar added cost or consequence that make it an iffy option IMO....
Think polar voxtex, stiff gearbox, and lower mpg....have a bearing fail and loose the tranny...will you ever be sure it was just from wear and tear, and not due to lube when the "better" fluid was thick as pudding?
Nobody has ever said the stock fluid was not adequate for daily driver usage. So why fix a problem that does not exist? Track folks, summer only, have other concerns, agreeded, but for a "regular" car, why bother?

ZippyNH,
All to aware of these types of cold weather issues. My other toy is a Kawasaki ZRX1200R. I ride year round, as long there is not ice. You must understand that I'm diving into new territory with this MCS. I picked the '06 because I wanted the Supercharger and the least amount of issues..done my studies. This vehicle will be a 50% daily drive, but it will take trips rallying thru the mountains and twisties in my neck of the woods.
With all this said, I'm not a newbie with tinkering on older vehicles, and I'm not being a smarta@@. I just was looking for insight as to why Redline is calling for D4 ATF in this tranny.
I'm at least 1 1/2 hrs away for a Mini Service shop, all my fluids will be ordered and delivered. I also don't see spending money on a name. If there is a product that meets the need, then why pay just because it has Mini on the bottle.
Any other comments as to why D4 vs MTL in a 2006 MCS Getrag 6 speed?
