R50/53 Mini Cooper Recall
I'm going to talk with the service manager. They are usually older and have experience with the entire range back to Gen 1 so are familiar with the original problems. I know his hands will be tied by the dealership procedure, but I will let him know that they will have to address this issue once and for all. I don't think it will be a problem other than waiting for it to get into the BMW system.
Did anyone ever get a letter? I went on the OL yesterday and it still says no recalls for mine (July 2006 build)...and YES, my sensor light is on and has been for a few years now (I know, I know, but I'm usually the only person in the car).

I called the dealer yesterday and they said MINI will be sending letters at the end of the month. She checked my VIN and said it was included in the recall. I had hoped to get it fixed before AMVIV, but that won't be happening as the dealers don't have the parts yet.
Same here. No letter, and MINIUSA says no recall for my VIN (July 2005). One peculiar thing about mine is both airbag lights are on; the Passenger Airbag OFF light in the roof console, and the speedo airbag light. The light will go out on it's own usually, if I don't have a passenger for a day or two. I'm wondering if it's not the connection under the seat. I haven't found a definitive answer on which plug goes to the seat occupancy mat. Is it the white plug on the outside edge of the seat, closest to the passenger door?
I just got a new to me 06 JCW with a May 06 build date (canadian model)
I bought it with the passenger airbag light on, knowing there is an issue with the system, and that it's a common problem.
I'll be taking it into the dealer in June after the car is road worthy, and report back with what they say. It would be awesome if it's repaired under the recall.

UPDATE: Just received the recall letter from Mini dated June 2015!
States that they are not ready for the recall yet, but will be sending out a second letter to notify that we can schedule the service at a authorized Mini Service center.
This is great news for all of us. Keep the faith. You should all be getting your notice soon.
I guess they couldn't look the other way any longer. I am not going to miss that damn light!

Miss Susan and I both received our MINI USA Notice of the recall in the mail last night.
For our 2007 R52s.
I read it as a Notice and that MINI will be doing the recall as soon as they have the materials on hand, and to contact the local MINI shop to arrange the service. I think I'll make the appointment for both cars, pack a picnic and just enjoy the day at the Dealership.
Motor on!

Becoming 'owner off record'?
Mine was mfr in 3/05 and my bags are definitely affected. Daughter (100 lbs) sits in the seat and may or may not get a light; then she gets out, and I definitely have a light and have to fasten the pass seatbelt to silence the beeper. Or, I can pound on the seat with my fist and eventually the light will go out.
Sigh....
Good luck
Thanks for the update, glad to hear Canada is doing this also.

But since my car is actively showing the problem, and it's limiting my usage of the car, I wanted the paperwork all done quicker. Who knows when their next data 'sync' with the DMV/MTO or batch of letters would happen.
I received my letter, called miniusa and they told me to contact my local dealership. Then the local dealership made me appointment and said they would give me a loaner car to use until it gets replaced. I showed up at the dealership and the service department said that they dont have any parts and dont know when they are going to get the replacement parts in so they told me to wait for second letter in the mail from Mini when they get replacement parts.
Hopefully the parts come in soon.

I had this done a couple months ago on a Mini I bought used, but did not pay for it (selling dealer did)... I got my recall letter yesterday. I find it odd because the only way Mini got my info was from the dealer I visited for the first time to do that very job. Left hand not talking to right hand? I guess I'm just in the system now but actual jobs performed is not... Or is there a newer airbag upgrade ??? Doubt it ;-)
Has the light stayed off since? Just curious if this is a actual fix, or just a replacement. Letter states its a 2hr service and they will replace the mat. No info on if this is a better mat, or harness, etc. Could just break again if they didn't correct the design/manufacture issue.
No letter yet but MINIUSA did show a recall so I called the dealer. Dealer verified the recall. Dealer had already confirmed passenger air bag failure a month earlier but could not do anything for less than $1,200 until the recall was official from Mini. Now they say the part has to come from Germany which is 2-3 week's shipping. Good news is they will finally fix it after 2 years at no charge. Very happy
